Amazon have announced that Co-op will be coming to Amazon.co.uk. Soon customers will be able to browse another grocery option other than Morrisons on Amazon’s platform. The Co-op on Amazon storefront will be available on Amazon.co.uk and on the Amazon.co.uk app, making it as easy as possible to shop.
Prime customers will have access to thousands of Co-op groceries including own-brand products and Fairtrade selection, and many more popular national brands on Amazon.co.uk, all sourced directly from a local Co-op store.
Deliveries are included with Prime membership with two-hour scheduled time slots on all orders over £40, and £3.99 for orders under £40 (minimum value £15). All orders will be hand-picked by dedicated staff at the local stores.
“With convenience at the core of our approach we are committed to finding new ways to expand access to our products and services, and we are delighted to be able to share our products on Amazon.co.uk. Co-op on Amazon will offer shoppers a shopping experience, with ease, speed and choice of great value products, conveniently.”
– Jo Whitfield, Chief Executive, Co-op Food
The new grocery option will initially be available in the majority of postcodes within Glasgow in addition to surrounding areas including Hamilton and Paisley, before being expanded to more Prime members across the UK in the coming months.
It will be interesting to see where the new partnership will go. Similar to Amazon the company has its hands in a few pies including with their well-known convenience stores. With Amazon planning to deploy more of their own cashierless convenience stores around, could Co-op play a part in that future?

“The launch of Co-op on Amazon.co.uk means Prime members in Glasgow will be able to use Co-op on Amazon as part of the benefits, at no extra cost, wherever it is available. Prime provides access to the best of Amazon, and we are looking forward to being able to expand the offering to more of the UK throughout the course of the year.”
